You are correct however the problem is with these irresponsible kids who are installing these on thier street cars and then thinking its funny to Jam the cop to Gun – laughing thier ass off as they speed past him. After all – there are no laws for laser jammers here so what is this pig going to do about it!? The police complain. It works it’s way up the system. Next thing you know a judge writes a law. And now laser jammers are now illegal in your state.
If anything, Officers make interstates and major 3-4 lane highways bullshit.
Prop Lane Use – This law should be enforced not speeding tickets. Less accidents would be the result- like the auto bon most parts no speed limits up until you come towards city’s and or intersections. Officers are actually hurt everyone else by not providing this law. because we keep getting more accidents- and people have to go in and out of traffic because slow people ride in the fast lane.
LeftLiberalSoCal – thats just you using it and going slower. eitheir way it catches the officers attention period because it Jams the gun no matter who uses it. the officers will complain and then get that law passed to make it illegal.
But officers get error codes randomly. These codes do not usually show all the way up to the gun. The point is responsible use. Right when you get hit with the laser, slow down to the speed limit, and cut it off to allow the cop to get a reading. This way they will not be by far as suspicious. If you jam it all the way to thier gun they will KNOW they are being jammed. One way they suspect it – MAYBE and the other way (JTG) they KNOW they are being jammed. And that will eventually create a BAN.
all because you have one and your state turns it illegal doesnt mean you can still use it and be smart about it hid the fucker tint your windows install it into the dash and make a cover for it so you cover it up when you get pulled over or park and a cop comes most you can say is ytour guns broke or you didnt speed
i hope all lasers get jammed. because its not the people who go 5mph over speed limit that cause crashes. its the stupid people who dont know how to drive. fix DMV and make sure stupid people dont get that license. Stop taking money from innocent people who went 5 mph over the speed limit you greedy cock suckers. You know i m right. I see you everyday speed without lights or sirens, Protect and serve my ass… more like Serve and get Paid…
@dlite922 What you have to keep in mind is in Virginia, it’s an automatic mandatory year in jail if you are caught, and Virginia has a device built into all radar units for law enforcement (local and state) that detects any radar detector or jamming device in use by a vehicle and identifies which vehicle is using such a device. It’s frequently meant out of state drivers find themselves in front of a judge in VA facing a year in jail for having one on the interstate as they drive through.
Your information regarding Virginia law on radar detectors/laser jammers is inaccurate. Currently the fine for possession of a radar detector in the state of Virginia is a fine of $40, and is minor traffic misdemeanor. The use of a laser jammer also falls under an “equipment violation” VA state code 191.653 which happens to be the same state code for radar detectors which would also carry a $40 fine.
There are also no radar units on the market that relay the use of a radar detector or jammer back to the police operator. The VG-2, and Spectre RDD are two devices that are separate from the radar unit that DO detect radar detectors, but only 5 are available in each county in Virginia by the state police.
To end my comments, the Blinder M27/47 is the only jammer that does not register an error code to the police operator. The Laser Atlanta gives a JA-3 error which means poor reflective surface, and not a JTG. Bottom line if you’re using a laser jammer in VA, once the laser signal is being picked up, slow down and turn off your unit.
I have a feeling you have no idea what I’m talking about as you’re clearly not educated in both VA law as well as radar/laser detection.
Funny, cause I’ve ridden with FairfaxCounty Police several times (Under the Ride Along Program), and everytime someone has been caught, they have been arrested and taken to the courthouse for a night in jail. You obviously overlooked that Virginia is a state that allows the counties to increase the laws beyond the state code. And yes, the radar guns we were using detected the jamming and identified it. So it would appear that you need to do some more research.
They are not common market units, they are specifically ordered by each of the counties that choose to purchase them. And even if the unit is turned off, if an officer sees it mounted on the dashboard, you’re busted. You may only have a radar detector in Virginia in your vehicle provided that you do not have it accessible to you when you drive.
Prince William County (neighbor to Fairfax) will take the unit and impound the vehicle, placing a 30 day suspension on your license. But in Fairfax, it is appearing before a judge before going down state to serve your year.
And remember, the companies who make the jammers are quite willing to sell such technology to Law Enforcement given it increases their profits, which in the end, is all that matters to them.
Now turning it off before you are within range of the radar gun is a good idea, as long as you don’t make it obvious that you have a detector, but be sure not to go too fast, else they’ll follow you to check your speed by a different method. Namely matching your speed and looking at the speedometer.
One of the cops I rode with however explained that the law they arrest you under does have a loophole to it, but few drivers ever exercise that loophole. Namely that the detector must be detected by the gun and turned on at the time. And since in Virginia, you have the legal right to ask to see the readout the gun gave of you, if the officer cannot provide that readout (except for aircraft enforcement), the charges must be dropped.
I bet you can’t, because what the officer was going off of was when the driver was alerted to the officer thru the detector, he/she slowed down which the officer saw the driver speed slowing on the radar/laser which immediately which tipped the officer off to the detector/possible jammer. There are no radar units on the market (yes, I’m also a former civil/electrical engineer before turning attorney) that alert an officer to the use of a radar detector, or jammer.
Lastly, you are correct in that there are some laser units that can tell if a jammer is being used, namely the Laser Atlanta, however the Blinder M27 has codes that are updated that show a false reading which most officers ignore and move on to the next vehicle.
Well, my comment regarding the jammer detection in the gun was, I admit, based on what one of the four officers once told me. So, we’ll drop that statement, in order to avoid a prolonged argument.
Also, a bit of advice (really for those who don’t want the attention of cops) from a culmination of all my rides. Turn the unit off when you are getting in range, but for the love of God, don’t suddenly start burning rubber as soon as you are lined up with the cop car. And don’t drive like a saint. People who suddenly drive “perfectly” around cops, tend to catch that officer’s attention, resulting in being flanked and having the tags checked to ensure everything is legit.
And by perfectly, I mean staying at or below the speed limit constantly, signaling and checking to make sure the lane is clear and safe to merge into, etc. Since in most areas, that is not how a typical drier operates their car (especially the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic), you end up portraying an image to police of “I’ve got something to hide”. Even if that is how you yourself would drive, it’s not the norm. and every cop I was with would run tags if they saw it. Suspended licenses mostly.

cause radar jammers are illegal in the states.

Its only illegal in a few state. Do you mean its illegal in YOUR state?
Even if it is, see my and Giankster’s comment above.

…well….the cop won’t go home happy if he has no tickets

Correct, I meant in my state.
